Rates as described below apply only to full or part-time Federal Employees. You must be an eligible, active full or part-time Federal Employee to apply for the Basic Group Term Life Insurance plan. See Plan Details for a complete description of Eligiblity.
Basic Group Term Life premiums are based on a flat charge per $1,000 of coverage for Federal Employees and their spouses. Premium details for calculation purposes are as follows:

*Rate is for Active Member and Spouse – Rates for Retired members/spouse above age 50 are higher. You can contact the plan administrator for details. Rates may be changed by New York Life on any premium due date and on any date which benefits are changed but only on a class wide basis. A class is a group of insureds with the same age.
Premium is based on amounts of coverage before any reductions in insurance are applied. Age is determined as of October 1.
Benefit Reductions
- Active employees - Beginning at age 70 coverage is reduced to 65%. Beginning at age 75, coverage is reduced to 45%. Beginning at age 80, coverage is reduced to 30%. Full premiums continue to be payable.
- Retired or Resigned Memebers - Beginning at age 55 (or your date of resignation or retirement if later) coverage is reduced 75%. Beginning at age 60 coverage is reduced to 50%. Beginning at age 65 coverage is reduced to 30% of the original face amount and terminates at age 70 (full premiums continue to be payable)

Coverage for your children will continue to age 19 (25 if they are full time students) as long as they remain eligible as defined in the Certificate of Insurance; coverage for you or your spouse is in force; and the required premium is paid.
