How do I obtain coverage?
You may obtain Wright’s Basic Life coverage on a Guaranteed Acceptance basis if you fall into either of the two groups listed immediately below:
1.) Newly Hired Federal Employees within 45 days of your Hire Date. You can enroll for coverage up to your current Salary (rounded up to the next higher $1,000). For example, if your starting salary is $55,499, the Maximum Coverage Amount available to you on a Guaranteed Acceptance basis is $56,000.
2.) Current Wright Basic Life insureds who received a Grade Level Change within the past 60 days. You can increase coverage to a maximum of your new current annual salary amount (but limited to a $50,000 increase). For example, your annual salary goes from $68,000 up to $150,000. Before this increase, your Basic Life coverage amount is $68,000. Since the salary increase is $82,000 (i.e., $150,000 - $68,000 = $82,000), the maximum you can request on a Guaranteed Acceptance basis is $50,000 to bring your total coverage amount of $118,000.
Please Note: If you are an Eligible Applicant looking to buy coverage in amounts in excess of those available under the Guaranteed Acceptance provision, please click on the "10-Year Level Term" option shown in the left margin.
How much coverage is available?
Eligible Applicants may apply for any coverage amount from $25,000 to $300,000 for themselves and up to $100,000 for their spouse (however, spouse amount cannot exceed eligible applicant's amount). Children may be covered for $10,000 each (coverage is limited to $500 each from 14 days to 6 months). However, children can only be covered by one parent insured under the Wright Basic Term Plan.
When does coverage begin?
Once accepted, coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month on or after the date ReliaStar Life approves such insurance if your premium payment is received within 31 days of being requested.
What happens if I retire or resign from the Federal Government?
You may continue to participate in the program up to age 70 for you and your dependents (if they remain eligible) provided premiums are paid in a timely manner.
Who is my beneficiary?
Choose anyone you wish as your beneficiary. You may change your beneficiary at any time. You are the automatic beneficiary for dependent coverage. Dismemberment benefits are paid to you, the insured.
